La gacilly, a village of nature, art, beauty and well-being

Nestling beside the river Aff, La Gacilly’s relaxed charm is part of its pleasant, friendly nature! It has plenty of green spaces and an outstanding heritage that you’ll appreciate best if you keep your head high and your feet on the ground. And whilst its heritage treasures may date back many centuries, the village is also fresh and up to the minute with its open air photography festival and its artists’ workshops. A vibrant touch is added by the gardeners and botanists who create beautiful floral displays for everybody to enjoy.

A FESTIVAL FULL OF FEELING!

All along the streets, fixed to the stone walls of the houses, are photographs that attract many curious stares. From June to September, France’s biggest open air photography festival extends an invitation to people from all over the world to exhibit their work at La Gacilly. Smile please – and admire all the portrait photos! For over 10 years, thousands of visitors have enjoyed looking at these works which combine art and journalism.

TALENT SPOTTING

Creativity takes centre stage indoors, too! Artists and craftspeople hold open house at their workshop-boutiques. Follow up the sudden sparkle of a jewel, or the sound of a craftsman planing wood. You’ll see the full spectrum of crafts as you stroll the streets: sculptors, potters, jewellers, glassmakers and more… Meanwhile, further down the hill, there’s La Passerelle, a building that has been converted into an arts centre, where talented creative artists stage unusual exhibitions and other special events.

COME STROLL WITH ME

La Gacilly, an arts and crafts village, is also defined by the timeless character that comes from shale, water and history. Delightful old houses, their facades decorated with sculptures, line the streets, bridges and the pretty little river Aff. The best way to discover the town’s charms is to explore its picturesque backstreets on foot.

A TOWN IN BLOOM

Wherever your steps lead you in this village that has poetry in its soul, you’ll be surrounded by flowers. La Gacilly has green fingers! 650 flower tubs are dotted around its squares and little streets, leading you to a bamboo garden and the Yves Rocher Botanical Garden (Rocher was born here). In its extensive gardens boasting over 1,100 different species, the cosmetics company continues its research into the benefits of plants. It’s a visit packed full of nature’s bounty!
